Notes:
The transmission of the virus from mother to infant can be reduced from 30% to 8% through the administration of AZT/protease inhibitors to the mother during pregnancy and to the infant for 6 weeks after birth. Therefore, Florida Law requires that a health care provider who attends a pregnant woman for conditions relating to her pregnancy offer HIV testing and counsel her on the availability of treatment if she tests positive.
If the pregnant women objects to HIV testing, a reasonable attempt must be made to obtain a written statement of objection, signed by the patient, which shall be placed in her medical record.
