The US Department of Transportation (DOT) and Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) regulate the handling and transportation of biomedical waste in Florida. Local county landfills can also determine what trash they will accept.

Biohazardous waste (sometimes also called biomedical or infectious waste) is defined as any solid or liquid waste which may present a threat of infection to humans.
