Engineering controls are continually evolving to lower the exposure risk for healthcare workers. The safety devices must be used by the worker to protect themselves and others.
If paperwork that is part of the chart is accidentally contaminated, it should be placed in a plastic sheet protector since this paperwork can not be discarded.
Using a CPR shield while performing mouth to mouth resuscitation reduces the risk of exposure to a host of pathogens.
When using the Pevco® tube system to transport specimens to the lab, make sure tops are secure. Also, samples are to be placed in sealed plastic bags before being sent.
